Whether you are new coming in to the haulage industry or an experienced veteran, if you wish to secure a position as a transport manager you will need to acquire the Transport Manager CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence). This qualification is also commonly referred to as the 'Operator CPC'. Perhaps you’re after a rewarding career in transport; perhaps you’re a driver looking to make the step up – either way, the Transport Manager CPC may be your route to success.

What does the training involve?

The Transport Manager CPC course, including exams, takes around two weeks. The CPC is an OCR Level 3 award, which means it is of A-Level standard. There are two exams: one multiple choice, the other case studies.

Candidates don’t necessarily have to attend the full two weeks. Some opt to buy the course materials, study at home, and then sit the exams. National statistics show, however, that the likelihood of a pass is significantly improved by attending a course.

There are 30 modules covered in total. You’ll be made familiar with such areas as Drivers’ Hours, Business and Company Law, Operator Licensing, Traffic Regulations and Vehicle Costings.

What exactly is involved?

The course lasts two weeks. The first week and majority of the second week cover a range of modules including Operator Licensing, Business and Company Law, Vehicle Taxation and Traffic Regulations. There are thirty Modules covered in total. We also delve into examination technique, and run mock exams to ensure you are well prepared.

You are given study notes before the course begins, so that you can familiarize yourself with the various aspects of the syllabus.

The full two-week course, including exams, is held at accredited teaching facilities in Team Valley, Gateshead. Even if you choose to buy the materials and study at home, we strongly recommend you come in for a couple of days to train before the exam, to give yourself a better chance of success.

This qualification is offered on behalf of the Department for Transport and in relation to the current EU directive. It is suitable for those wishing to enter the profession of passenger transport management or demonstrate professional competence to meet the operator licensing requirements.

Once you have comitted to booking on the course we will need to have a brief chat with you regarding your role and ask a few questions* such as size of your fleet etc.
